With incredible support from a remarkable group of people, we've reopened Moore and are now offering expanded child care and community services to low-income families in East Biloxi.
First, we gutted and rebuilt Uproars to serve as our temporary shelter. Post-Katrina, child care was identified as one of the community's most pressing needs, and Moore was the first program to re-open in the area.
Today we have two additional new buildings and playgrounds offering much improved facilities and expanded services, as well as community meeting space.
There is still so little child care on the Gulf Coast that Moore's services are more important than ever for working poor families seeking to rebuild their lives in East Biloxi.
We could not have rebuilt without financial gifts, technical support ,and a lot of sweat equity donated by organizations and individuals from across the country.

the "before" Although Katrina destroyed all but one of Moore's eight buildings, the shell of the Epworth church building remained standing, The inside was ruined with the miraculous exception of the stained glass windows. If you look below, you'll see that we were able to keep the original character intact..

and "during" Reconstruction of additional expanded facilities, Epworth served as a temporary home for services, so that we could get up and running as soon as possible to meet one of the most pressing needs post-Katrina. Since finishing, we transformed the Epworth Church building into administrative offices and a community center .

taking the long view Our new offices and child care facilities are a huge improvement over the old buildings. East Biloxi has long been a disadvantaged neighborhood and the need for community services is greater than ever since the storm. Moore is serving as a center for community growth and rebuilding for East Biloxi.

miracle in stained glass Despite 20-foot storm surges and hurricane-force winds that took all but one of Moore's buildings, Epworth Church's stained glass windows survived to brighten our spirits. The building was completely gutted and rebuilt -- and was the first to reopen, offering desperately need child care services to the local community.

a new campus! Moore' s campus is rebuilt, boasting new child care facilities, playgrounds, and community meeting space. We have doubled the size of our child care programs and continue to provide innovative services to help families achieve self-sufficiency and move out of poverty, such as the highly aclaimed, Women in Construction (WIC) -- which offers building trade skills for low-income women.
